South Wiltshire Riding Club
 South Wiltshire Riding Club

Welcome to South Wiltshire Riding Club

Affiliated to the British Horse Society

South Wilts Riding Club was formed in 1985 from the merger of Hindon and Warminster Riding Clubs. Today our members come from a fairly wide area of south and west Wiltshire: from Warminster and Mere to Shaftesbury and Salisbury.

We are a friendly, welcoming club catering for riders of all abilities. Some compete at affiliated level, while others, just starting out on the competitive road, have plenty of opportunity to gain experience at our many club based competitions and activities. Membership is open to all with juniors from the age of 10, and adults from 18 upwards  Throughout the year we offer a comprehensive programme of instruction in flatwork, jumping and cross country together with a busy calendar of competitions.

As part of British Riding Clubs Area 17, which covers Hampshire, Dorset, Isle of Wight and part of Wiltshire, our members are able to compete in all disciplines at area and national level.

It is by no means essential to own a horse (or even ride!) to be a member.  A keen interest in the horse is all that is required, and enthusiasm for getting involved in club activities.

COVID-19 Update

At this worrying time I hope that you are all well and keeping yourselves safe.

As I am sure most of you are already aware that BRC announced yesterday (17th March) that all BRC activities are being halted until June 30th.

This will affect all of our club competitors, team qualifiers and championships, lessons and also summer camp and the planned ride at Badminton. We are seriously keeping our fingers crossed that after June we will be able to get back to business as usual however we obviously can't guarantee this. We will endeavour to  get as many of our planned activities moved as possible but will not manage to move all of them and Camp may have to be put off until next year.

For any of you that have already paid for lessons, area quals and camp. You will be fully reimbursed as soon as possible.

So to keep our spirits up and give you all something to aim for we are putting together a schedule for a summer league of video competitions. There will be all the normal classes and each class will be a qualifier for our Club Champs which we hope will still be at West Wilts EC in September. If the worst happens and we are still on lockdown the champs will also be done via video. The schedule will be out asap.

Lessons are a little trickier. As a club we cannot continue to organise the lessons during this period as the insurance will not cover us however our instructors are happy to still help you in small groups or as individuals and Manor Farm can still be used as a private / semi private venue with or without your favourite instructor so long as you all adhere to the rules. Wash your hands and keep to a sensible distance from each other and please don't come if you are feeling unwell or anyone at home is unwell. If you want to keep up with your training please contact your fave instructor direct.

Also why not make the most of your SWRC family and maybe meet up for a nice hack or meet somewhere different. I'm sure we all have a favourite hack that we could share with a few others!!. If this is something you would be interested in please contact one of the committee or pop a post on the members only facebook page.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that come July normality will be resumed and keep safe everyone.
